Report on the South African Junior Nationals played in Bloemfontein

THE HEAT IS ON AT THE JUNIOR TENNIS NATIONALS

Bloemfontein, South Africa – The weather has heated up in Bloemfontein as has the tennis following semi finals day in Bloemfontein of the South African Junior Nationals.
Top seed Warren Kuhn from Johannesburg was toppled by the unseeded Jaapie de Klerk (Boland) in the Under 18 boys semi finals. De Klerk won comfotabley 6-2 6-4 win and will now play third seed Dylan Comerford (Gauteng Central) who overcame fellow Joburger, sixth seed Brandon Ebersey in a gruelling two and a half hour marathon 6-2 6-7(5) 6-3.
Local favourite in the under 16 boys Theo Ferriera out played his younger opponent, Philip Franken (Boland) to secure his place tomorrows final. Unseed Ferriera will take on Redge Rostron (Gauteng East) for title honours. Rostron cruised  to  to a 6-0 6-0 victory over the sixth seed Trent Botha of Western Province.
Northern Cape stars twin sisters, Zani and Lee Barnard will face off again in the final of the under 12 girls. The Barnards have played each other on numerous occasions and were seeded to meet in Tuesdays. Lee Barnard beat third seed Mila Hartig (Gauteng North) 6-3 6-3 while Zani beat fourth seed Kirsty Orton (Western Province) 6-2 7-5.
Third seed Jesse Grace (Gauteng East) and fourth seed Janet Kock (Boland) make up the finals of the Girls under 16. Grace upset top sead Donna Haycok (South West Districts) 6-3 6-2, whilst Koch had no problem ousting eigth seed Michelle Erasmus (Gauteng Central) 6-2 6-2.

Die mans enkels afdeling is gewen deur Duke Munro(1) van die Vrystaatse Universiteit. Hy het in ‘n baie goeie wedstryd teen Gustav Fichardt(2) van Oud Studente met ‘n telling van 6-2 6-1 geseevier. Duke Munro het in meeste van die fasette van die wedstryd bobaas gekraai en het baie min foute begaan om sodoende dan die titel te verdedig.

Elizna Barnard(2) het in die dames finaal met die louere weggestap. Sy het ‘n ongelooflike spannende en naby wedstryd met 7-5 7-6 beklink teen Christine Keyser(1). Dit was ‘n baie gelyke stryd en daar was nie veel tussen die twee spelers nie. Die finale afronding van die stel het toe uiteindelik die deurslag aan Barnard gegee.

In die Mans dubbels het Divan Olivier en Pieter Swart wat die eerste gekeurde paar vir die dubbels was met Hendri Steyn en Ludik Schlebush afgereken met ‘n telling van 6-2 3-6 7-5. Uitstekende dubbels is gespeel en hierdie spelers het voorwaar alles wat hulle het in die stryd gewerp. Baie spannende oomblikke het keer op keer hulle verskyning in die wedstryd gemaak, en het gesorg vir ‘n ongelooflike finaal. Die vrystaat se tennis is voorwaar van goeie gehaalte.

Die Dames dubbels is beklink deur Veruschka van Wyk en haar maat Christine Keyser. Hulle het in die eindstryd met Bianca du Toit en Heidi Murrey afgereken met ‘n telling van 6-2 6-7 6-1.
